The raspberry field will be CLOSED for ripening on Friday August 16. It will re-open on Saturday. The blueberry field will be open on Friday – this is likely the last week for them. Blackberries are wrapping up as well. Plenty of flowers and herbs available for cutting. See you at the farm.
Mid-August Berry Picking
Late season red raspberries (also known as Fall raspberries) are available for picking. The Double Gold raspberries will be ready soon. Still picking blueberries and blackberries although this may be the last week for both – stay tuned. Flowers and herbs still available for cutting. Hope to see you at the farm soon.
Upcoming Rain
The weather forecast for Friday and Saturday (August 9 & 10), seems to be in flux. If it is raining either of those two days, the farm will be closed. Suggest you check Facebook, our website or call the farm line (860)786-7486 before coming over. I will post whether we are open or closed each of those mornings.
THANK YOU !
A HUGE THANK YOU to all who supported our Walk to End Alzheimer’s fundraiser in memory of my Mom, Jane Cook Curtis. Mom loved working with us at our farm and interacting with so many of you over many years. We raised $562 from flower and herb sales and other generous donations. The funds have been transferred to the CT Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. If you missed our fundraiser and would like to contribute, we are still accepting donations at our check out, from “keep the change” to specific donations. We hope that very soon no one will have a loved one deal with dementia or Alzheimer’s.
Is it fall yet? Our “fall” raspberry varieties certainly think so.
Black and Purple raspberries are done. Summer red and blush raspberry varieties are almost done, and the fall raspberry varieties are beginning to ripen – a good 2+ weeks early. If you are looking to pick a large volume of raspberries, wait another 7-10 days. However, our BIG blackberries are NOT done yet and are waiting for you to pick them.
In the meantime, our blueberry bushes are still loaded with large, delicious berries. According to an article from Hartford HealthCare, written by Melissa Keeney, RCN, clinical nutrition manager at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, there are at least 6 reasons to eat blueberries: “(1) they are full of nutrients, (2) they maintain memory function, (3) they keep your heart healthy, (4) they improve your digestive health, (5) they support your workout, and (6) they may be best for you frozen – hello, convenience.” And we all know #7 is, they taste so-o-o-o good!
Flowers and herbs are available for cutting. The Alzheimer’s fundraiser, in memory of my Mom, has been a wonderful success and so we are extending it – THANK YOU to all who have supported this important cause! Honey is available in the farmstand along with cherry tomatoes.
Berries Still Available
Our blueberry plants and blackberry plants are loaded with ripe berries, and red and blush raspberries are also available. Black raspberries are essentially done but you are welcome to look for some, and the purple raspberries are winding down.
Alzheimer’s Fundraiser & Flowers
My Mom, Jane Curtis, loved our farm – she helped plant most of our berry fields, planted the flowers and herbs with me every year, made beautiful flower bouquets for our farmstand (as well as for herself, family and friends), taught flower arranging classes for children, loved to drive the tractor, and ran our farmstand every year until dementia took hold. When she couldn’t live on her own anymore she wanted to live on the farm – and she did that for her last couple of years. If you have never been touched by dementia or Alzheimer’s count yourself very lucky.
In her memory I participated in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s last year to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Association, and will do it again in September. At the same time, we are going to hold a fundraiser at the farm with 100% of all flower and herb sales for the next couple of weeks going to the Alzheimer’s Association in the name of Team Curtis in Mom’s memory.
So we invite you to cut your own flowers and/or herbs while you support the Alzheimer’s Association. Flyers with additional information about the Walk to End Alzheimer’s are available in the farmstand. Thank you in advance for your support.
At the same time, we have blueberries, all the colors of raspberries (red, blush, black and purple), and blackberries for picking. And honey from a local beekeeper available in the farmstand.

A Smogasbord of Berries
I love this time of the season because we have blueberries, all the colors of raspberries (red, blush, black and purple), and blackberries for picking. A great smorgasbord of berries! And there are plenty of all of them.
We have honey from a local beekeeper available in the farmstand.
Herbs, Lavender and Flowers are ready for cutting.
More Berries Ripening
We have alot of ripe red raspberries to pick. Our black, purple and blush raspberries are beginning to ripen. If you are looking for a large quantity of those, I would suggest that you wait until next week. Blackberries are NOT ready yet – I will let you know when they are ripe – don’t worry, we have a full crop of blackberries this year.
We will begin picking Blueberries on Wednesday July 3 – a good 10 days earlier than normal. We have a wonderful crop this year – the plants are loaded and the berries are sizing up very well.
Herbs, Lavender and Flowers are ready for cutting. In addition we hope you will take a few moments to enjoy our new wildflower meadow in bloom. The bees are loving it!
We look forward to seeing you at the farm!
Our Lavender is Blooming
Our lavender is blooming and it is BEAUTIFUL! It smells wonderful as well. Come on out and cut some – used in baking (Lavender Honey Cupcakes – yummy), bouquets, sachets and more.
